    Introduction

    The Mercator property is a copper-polymetallic (Cu-Ni-Co) project, 22 km long by 16 km wide. It is located roughly 100 km west of Route 389, a 570-km-long stretch of highway between the city of Baie-Comeau and the iron mining town of Fermont. The project displays strong geochemical signatures in lake-bottom sediments, including copper, bismuth and molybdenum, and more locally, nickel and cobalt. 

    The main target models are banded iron formation (BIF)-hosted Au, intrusion-related Cu-Au, magmatic Ni-Cu-Co and IOCG mineralization.
     

  • Azimut has conducted limited exploration work to date on the project, focused mainly on a strong regional multi-element (Cu, Bi, Mo, Ni, and Co) footprint in lake-bottom sediments. A 300-m-long uranium-bearing horizon has also been identified on the property, with readings above 8,000 cps and grab samples grading 2260 ppm U, 2160 ppm U, and 930 ppm U. Several other grab samples returned multi-element anomalies, including a sample with 132 ppm Co, 388 ppm Cu, 31 ppm Li and 844 ppm Ni.

    On a nearby property to the northeast, Stelmine Inc. reported results from 22 channel sites carrying significant gold values, such as 2.07 g/t Au over 27.5 m, 2.16 g/t Au over 16.0 m and 2.13 g/t Au over 12.5 m, along with gold-bearing grab samples with grades such as 18.2 g/t, 9.27 g/t, and 6.93 g/t Au. Stelmine has completed a maiden 2,000 m drilling program (results pending). 
     

  • Mercator is located in the Archean Superior Province, more precisely in the eastern part of the Opinaca Subprovince near the southwestern margin of the high-grade metamorphic Ashuanipi Subprovince.

    The property’s geology is defined by generally north-south paragneiss bands roughly 2-8 km wide, intruded by diatexite and plutons of granite, granodiorite and tonalite. The entire sequence is cut by several diabase dykes.
